You say, “Look down there!” pointing
to a huge freight boat, leaving the port,
but in the dark
even through binoculars,
I’m incapable of seeing its outlines –
nothing but the sleep-walker lights…
.
Now all is wrapped
in drizzly dreariness
the only objects to
resist it
are those yellow cranes
and
the headlights
which should probably
stay on
till the end of the day
.

Tu dis “Regarde !” et me montre l’énorme cargo qui
quitte le port là-bas au loin, alors qu’il fait encore nuit
Même avec les jumelles on ne distingue pas ses contours
dans l’obscurité, on ne voit que ses lumières
noctambulesques
Maintenant tout est repris par la grisaille et la pluie
sauf le jaune des grues qui résiste
sauf les phares des voitures qui vont encore rester
allumés toute la journée
