Ladder (a text of Jean Cocteau translated by Vadim Bystritski)
Most Serene Highness.
The racks are on the
trunk. The ladder against
the tree is dead standing.
Each weapon magnifying
glass. They then realized
the sons of iron barbed.
Shadow. They then
realized the nail chestnuts.
The human veins. The veins
that intersect. The line that
knots the roads one over the
other and the wind motionless
by the ripped off shutters.
They realized fastened and
unfastened racks. Shadow.
Rafter tops. A door leaf. Hus-
bandry. A spiked with wings
boogey. An ignoble rosebush.
But a wooden step stool.
.
Sérénissime. Les claies
sur l’arbre. L’échelle
sur l’arbre mort debout.
l’échelle debout sur l’arbre
mort. La loupe
des armes.
Ils virent alors le fils de fer
barbelé. L’ombre. Il virent
alors la châtaigne
de clous. Les veines d’homme.
Les chemins qui se croisent. Le ligne
qui nouait les chemains
l’un sur l’autre et le vent immobile
et la persienne arrachée.
Ils virent lier et délier
les claies. L’ombre. La pointe à poutres.
Le vantail. L’entaille. L’époux.
L’épouvantail hérissé d’ailes.
Le rosier ignoble. L’échelle
du tonnelier.
